As early as the 9th century, painters were using perspective to create their pictures. In photography, it is one of the most important tools – because only the right angle gives the picture that certain something.
It doesn’t matter whether you use an expensive SLR camera or just take photos with a disposable camera, you can use perspective very consciously and create something very special from just one photo.

The normal perspective

The normal perspective, also called central perspective, is a picture that is taken at eye level. So you simply set up a tripod at eye level or hold the camera in front of your face and take the photo at that angle.

The bird’s eye view

In addition to the central perspective, a high camera position also offers interesting views and motifs.
A camera perspective above the „normal“ eye level is called an overhead view or bird’s eye view (high-angle shot), and it also offers numerous possibilities for image composition.
The bird’s eye view also gives the viewer a certain feeling of „freedom“.

The Frog’s Perspective

Everything that is below normal eye level is called a worm’s perspective. In photography, a worm’s perspective is
called a low angle. It makes objects appear long and large. In extreme cases, a small high-rise building photographed from a worm’s perspective can look like a huge skyscraper.

Stand out from the crowd!

Take photos of your pictures from different perspectives! You will see what effect this can have and how your pictures gradually appear more alive.
For example, sit in a meadow and photograph the flowers from a worm’s perspective and make these small, delicate things look like gigantic monsters.
The next time you are in a tall building, open the window and photograph downwards – and the world suddenly seems tiny!
Depending on the effect you want to achieve, different perspectives can be used to emphasize the respective pictures.

I hope you have fun trying it out 🙂
